Clinique - Sparkle Skin Body Exfoliator

Friends! Rejoyce! The answer to REALLY smooth skin is here. (Do I sound like a cheesy infomercial? HAHA)

Let me first say – I never exfoliate my body. Like ever. I have a face scrub that I keep in the shower that I use with my Clarisonic. But body exfoliation is not something I do. Now – why the sudden change? The short answer is Allure magazine made me do it. Well, not MADE me, but I saw this product featured last month and knew I wanted to try it. I also know myself – if I don’t leave something in the shower to try, I’ll forget about it and it’ll rot away in one of my many makeup drawers, cabinets, closets, etc. This product is obviously meant to live in the shower so I figured hey, I’ll give it a go.

I got in the shower and made sure my body was coated with water. I took the exfoliator and massaged it into my skin in little circles. It felt gritty but also creamy and gel like which was nice. It wasn’t too harsh on my skin. Then I made sure that I washed thoroughly – there is nothing worse than feeling little grits on yourself after you get out of the shower. After I dried off, I could not believe how sleek and smooth my skin was. This was of course pre-lotion. The product recommends twice weekly use, and I will definitely be following that. I’m sure it will have an even greater use in the winter when skin is dry and flakey and in need of a polish. I also found it to have a slight cooling effect which is much appreciated in this summer heat!

I didn’t expect to like it as much as I do. I didn’t really know what to expect, being a non-body exfoliator person. It made my skin insanely smooth. I kept touching my arms and legs throughout the day because it was that noticeable. And this is just after one use. I'll even take it a step further - I called the ultimate beauty junkie (my mom) and told her that I would be picking her up one of these to try. My mom tries everything and is a big critic when it comes to beauty products - she will tell it like it is! Will let you guys know if she agrees with my glowing review =)

All in all, you need this. Your skin will thank you.

Why I got my first tattoo at 29

So I finally did it. I got INKED. I went back and forth on my decision – am I too old to get my FIRST tattoo now that I’m finally ready? My husband and friends said that was a crazy thought – I should do what I want, damn it! And so I did. But it took me a long time to get here.

Tattoos in this day and age aren’t taboo – everyone has them. Moms, dads, teens. Tattoos used to be a sign of being edgy – a bad ass – someone in the military. Now they are just another way to show your individuality. For me the question was – what? What represents ME? In a few words or even a picture? I’m sure this plagues most people when deciding on what type of tattoo to get so I wasn’t alone. I’ve always been a creative person who wants to express themselves. People who know me were almost surprised that I hadn’t gotten inked at some point.

I thought back to my younger days – high school and college. What the hell would it look like if I got a tattoo back then? Something ridiculous probably. Lyrics to a song that was now old and forgotten. A matching tattoo with someone who I was no longer friends with. Or – god forbid – someone’s name or initials that I was no longer dating. I’m glad that I waited until I was older and fully realized that I was doing – that this ink will be there forever. I see some younger chicks (and dudes) inking themselves up and I kind of cringe. I just hope they don’t regret it one day. Of course I’m just speaking from experience – I know my younger self and she was kind of a rebel asshole. Saying that all young people will one day regret their tattoo choices is a ridiculous generalization. I would imagine buyer’s remorse when it comes to tattoos is far worse than buying an ugly pair of shoes. My advice is to make sure you love it.

So now to the ink! I got something that I know I will never regret – the date of my wedding anniversary. The best day ever! I maniacally researched placement options on Pinterest and other sites, and finally decided on this spot. My artist was wonderful – crisp, clean lines and it was over pretty quickly. My husband and best friend came with me for support – it was a fun family outing HA. I can honestly say that I love it and am so glad I finally took the plunge into ink land. In closing, the only question left to answer is…what’s next?

Newport, Rhode Island is GORGEOUS

Hi friends! I wanted to share some beautiful photos with you from our weekend in Newport, Rhode Island! I had never been, and was amazed at how beautiful and scenic it was. Happy hours on the harbor, beaches that go on for miles, TONS of mansions that are a few hundred years old and so much more. My husband’s friend from college got married this weekend and I could see why they chose Newport. Check us out below!

My handsome husband and I! It was black tie so we got to get FANCYYY
I'm wearing a Calvin Klein gown that i'm kind of in love with.
The back of the dress was open back and criss crossed with the gold sequins.

The beautiful couple!
Blithewold Mansion, Gardens and Arboretum

Picture perfect.

We had cocktails before dinner right on the water!
Forty 1 North

Newport Second Beach

Check out all these colored pants!
The theme of the welcome party was Vineyard Vines/Nantucket
The guys definitely stepped it up.

I would love to go back again and do the cliffwalk - it's a path where you can see the water on one side, and the mansions on the other. Weekend trips rule! Hope everyone had a great one!

boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge With Bamboo Charcoal

Hi dolls! I want to talk about boscia’s charcoal sponge. I saw this demonstrated at a beauty event a few months back, and immediately ran out to purchase it.

The sponge is rock hard when you get it, and slowly softens with warm water into a super soft pillowy sponge – the demo was very cool. It comes with a little white string so you can hang it up to dry. Now – I hate to say it, but I don’t see what the big deal about it is. It performed exactly like it looks – like a sponge. It wasn’t terrible, but I don’t think it was effective at all. The hype around it made me want to try it and I expected something more from my purchase. It could be that it’s just not my thing – I really like to scrub my face, which is why I’m a huge Clarisonic fan. This sponge was simply too gentle when wet, and I felt like It didn’t get my face really CLEAN.

I should also note that I never used it to take makeup off – I use Neutrogena face wipes for that. So all I wanted from this sponge was to give my face a good clean. I’m also not sure where the bamboo charcoal comes in. This could have been my fault, but I was under the impression that the bamboo charcoal properties would bring something extra to this sponge – a clean, refreshing feeling maybe? A gritty, exfoliating clean? I’ve used it with and without soap and still wasn’t in love with it. Again, this is all just my opinion and I do prefer a more aggressive face scrub. I just wasn’t wowed by this product! Anyone else try it? Here's the Sephora link if you want to read more about it:
