nugg Face Masks - Product Reviews. 3 Flavors, 3 Different Product Testers!

From the minute I read about these single serve masks in Allure, I knew I needed to try them. Aside from trusting almost everything Allure says, I absolutely loved the idea of a single serve mask - put it on and throw out the little pod. They are so cute and small! Perfect for travel or just regular weekly use. I also loved that each mask was only $2.99. There are currently 4 flavors of Nugg masks, and I bought 3 of them to test. I tried the mask above - Face Mask revitalizing Flaxseed & Peppermint Oil. My mother-in-law tried the Face Mask soothing Shea Butter and Chamomile Extract. My awesome husband tried Face Mask exfoliating Cranberry Seed Oil and Jojoba Beads. I took notes on each tester's experience with their masks. It was a fun little experiment. Enjoy!

Product Tester: My mother in law, Arlene
Texture: Loved the texture. Didn't feel like a traditional mask.
Scent: Liked the smell, it gave off a relaxing, spa-like feeling.
While Mask Was On: Mask made skin feel tight, but in a good way. Didn't harden like a clay mask.
After Mask Was Washed Off: Skin felt tight and smooth, could feel the difference the masks made.
Left Mask On For: 10 minutes
Overall Experience and Notes: Really enjoyed the experience, wanted to try the other flavors in the future. She thought there was too much product given for a single serve mask though - she felt like she was wasting it by throwing it out!

Product Tester: My husband, Greg
Texture: Liked the gel texture. The jojoba beads were gentle, not super gritty.
Scent: Didn't like the smell. It wasn't offensive or overpowering, just not his taste.
While Mask Was On: Felt nice, didn't harden. Beads seemed to disintegrate when he initially applied the mask, so it didn't feel like beads were sitting on his skin (a good thing).
After Mask Was Washed Off: Could notice a little bit of a difference.
Left Mask On For: 10 minutes
Overall Experience and Notes: Felt the need to use the entire pod of product, there was a lot in there for a one time use product.

Product Tester: Me!! =)
Texture: LOVE the texture. I've never tried a gel mask before. The product just glides on the skin. It's nice and thin.
Scent: Very menthol and minty. Could put some people off but I liked it.
While Mask Was On: The mask gives off a noticeable cooling feeling, probably due to the mint. It was great! Same as stated above, this mask does not harden like a clay mask would. You can feel it tightening the skin slightly.
After Mask Was Washed Off:  The cooling feeling remained for a few minutes even after I washed the product off. My skin felt tight, smooth and breathable.
Left Mask On For: 10 minutes
Overall Experience and Notes: I really enjoyed this mask experience. I definitely want to try the other flavors. As I said before, since each mask is $2.99 you CAN try them all and not break the bank. I love the single serve concept - it's more sanitary to me. Often times clay masks dry up and get chunky, so gross. This mask was a breath of fresh air! My skin still feels smooth and it's the next day. Definitely recommend it! You can buy them at Target, or on nugg's website.

New Haircut - Before and After!

Before - my hair was started to grow out and lose the shape

After! I've wanted this haircut for a long time. Longer in the front, shorter in the back.

I absolutely love my new hair! After cutting in short over a year ago, I decided to do it again - just as it was growing back HAHA. This style makes me feel edgy and cool - I love the shape and how it falls around my face. I also love how easy it is to do my hair in the morning - so quick to blow dry and style. Then I can spend more time on my makeup =)

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!! xoxo

I'm 28. This is My Weekly Skincare Routine

Hi friends! I always get asked by family and friends what my skincare routine is. After years and years of having acne and bad skin as a teenager/young adult, I’m FINALLY getting compliments on how great my skin looks. It’s such a great feeling! My skin is still prone to break outs and is very sensitive. I still have to be careful of what I use. Below is my Monday-Sunday skincare routine! These products have proven to work really well for me personally, and I’ve tried to stick with them for the sake of my skin.

Before detailing my routine, I did some research. I found that there weren’t many skincare articles out there for women in their late 20’s (I’m 28). Well, there WERE articles but they still left me feeling like – what should I USE? How often? If I still get acne sometimes, can I still use anti-aging products? Am I currently using the right products? I started to research the products I was using and their benefits to my skin. I made some slight changes - I added a retinoid cream once a week and started using my Clarisonic every day vs. a few times a week. I want to add a mask into my routine once a week – anyone have suggestions?!

I want to be sure that I’m giving my skin the best care possible! After all, you only get one face, right? And before you think I’m a freak of nature – I slip up sometimes. I don’t follow this exactly. But I try my hardest to! See below for what I use and WHY.

So that's that. I love all of these products. If it wasn't evident from my blog, I'm a huge beauty, skincare and product junkie. Meaning, I've basically tried EVERYTHING and this is what I stuck with.  Here are the benefits of a few of the products, and what I love them!

Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Mega-Bright serum

What it Does: Corrects skin tone, fades acne scars and dark spots.

Why I love it: I love the texture and it smells divine (reminds me of fruit snacks!). It dries quickly and gives you glowing skin.

Dr. Jart+Premium BB Beauty Balm SPF 45 PA

What it Does: A moisturizer, sunscreen, and treatment serum, this all-in-one product also includes advanced brightening properties.

Why I love it: I’ve been raving about this product for a few years now, and I haven’t switched since. It gives me just the right amount of coverage. After long-term use, I credit this product with transforming my skin. I only wear this and a little bit of MAC powder every day instead of foundation. When you first apply, the BB can look a little chalky. Let it fully dry before putting anything on top of it and the color will adjust. The SPF is 45 which is fantastic. Always wear sunscreen!! It’s a tough nut to crack price-wise - $39. But I don’t think I could live without it.

Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream

What it Does: A clinically-proven eye cream that instantly de-puffs and reduces dark circles.

Why I love it: I can’t wait to put it on in the morning. The caffeine and ginseng wakes up your skin and senses. Love the citrus smell and bright package.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Cleansing Wipes for Acne Prone Skin, Pink Grapefruit

What it Does: These soft, pre-moistened wipes thoroughly cleanse skin of pore-clogging impurities... all with an uplifting blast of pink grapefruit.

Why I love it: It’s tough getting all of your makeup off at the end of the day, even after washing your face. These wipes do a great job of getting your face clean, while preventing future acne. They are just right – not too harsh that they make you peel, but tough enough to prevent acne. And of course, love the grapefruit scent! I tried using the CVS brand version of these wipes and they sucked. I thought I could try to save a little money and use the store brand. Not worth it. The Neutrogena ones are the real deal. I've converted family and friends to these wipes, and we all ask each other how we lived without them before!

Hope you guys enjoyed!

Clinique Lipstick in Rock Violet

This has quickly turned into one of my favorite fall colors, and I don't even remember buying it. I recently organized my makeup drawers so I could finally see all my stuff. I might have gotten this lipstick as a gift, I don't think I would have bought it for myself. The lipstick looks very DARK in the tube, but it's actually a quite beautiful shade. It's like a brown, purple, pinky shade with just the right amount of shine. I like using a pale lip pencil - like MAC's In Synch - all over lips first before applying this lipstick. It makes it last longer, and makes the color pop more. Because it's a darker shade, I love wearing it with 2 coats of mascara and NARS Orgasm blush. It looks so fresh and polished, yet kinda edgy all at once. The color looks different from different angles and light, I did my best to capture it below! What are you guys loving for fall? Share with us!

L'Oreal Infallible Silkissime Silky Liner in Black - Product Review

Sup makeup peopleeeeeeeeeeee! I just bought this eyeliner. I've been OBSESSED with Kat Von D's Tattoo Felt Tip Liner (read review here) but also needed a black pencil liner.

I bought this one for Halloween, actually, because I figured I could still use it afterward for regular, non-Halloween life. To kick it off, there's a few things I love about it, and some things I don't. Let's read on.

Texture: This pencil is very coal-like and smudgy. It glides on beautifully and is very soft which I love. There's nothing worse than trying to use a stiff pencil on your skin, it hurts! Like I said, I used it for my Sugar Skull makeup and it worked out great. I basically drew all over my face with it and had great control over where the product was going. I haven't tried yet, but I would assume it would be ideal for a smokey eye - very blendable, smudgy and sexy.

Wear: This is a little tricky. I've been wearing this liner in my water line for the last couple of days and I'm a little torn. I love the texture, but can't seem to stop the fall out that it gives off. I'll see little dots of black under my eyes and have to wipe them off, which causes them to smudge. Not great right before you're walking into a meeting! I even tried using a smudge tool to spread out the product, thinking maybe the fall out wouldn't happen. No dice. This pencil might be better suited for the eyelid and not under your eyes.

Look: I love the look of this pencil. I know you guys will know what I mean - it is BLACK. Like very very dark BLACK. It gives off a really nice, bold line which I love. Now if only it wouldn't smudge on my face!!

Verdict: I do like this pencil. I'm not giving up on it yet. I'm going to try and maybe do a smokey eye to see if it's just the waterline that's the problem. The texture really kicks ass, and it's one of the blackest pencils I've come across. I'll also try some primer on my eyelids before applying, perhaps that will give the liner something to grab onto.

What do you guys think? Anyone try? There's a beautiful Teal color in the Silkissime line - if I can get the black to work for me I would love other colors!

Beauty Benefits to Drinking Water. YES, you can do this!

I roll my eyes when a celebrity exclaims “drinking lots of water” as their best kept beauty secret. Like right, water along with a wardrobe stylist, dermatologist, hair stylist, beauty team and 20 hours of sleep each day. I’ve never been a big water drinker myself, but lately have been trying to drink about 70oz per day. Why this sudden fascination with water, you ask? I read an article a few months back explaining all the health benefits to drinking the recommended amount of water per day (calculated based on your weight, age, height, etc) – more energy, can aid in balancing your calorie intake, potential weight loss, etc. So I dug a little deeper, and found a plethora of BEAUTY benefits of water. Maybe Hollywood is right about something. Here are some of my favorites.

1. Your skin will look more youthful. Water hydrates the skin, which stops it from drying out and looking dull. Some experts say drinking enough water each day is more important than applying expensive creams and serums.

2. Clear, bright eyes. When your eyes are red and irritated, you look tired. Skip the constant eye drops and drink more water!

3. Could prevent acne. It is said that drinking hot lemon water in the morning could reduce internal bacteria, therefore lessoning nasty acne breakouts. (hey, it can’t hurt to try right?)

4. Aids in toning and firming skin. Not just your face –all skin. Water fills up cells, making them tight and firm. This fights against wrinkles and cellulite.

5. Glossy, healthier hair. Water hydrates cells, and yes that includes your hair. Again, some experts say drinking more water is more important and beneficial to hair than expensive hair styling products.

A couture photo of me and my tumbler. This could be YOU.

OK now that you are convinced that water is just the greatest, how do you remember to drink the right amount? Here are my own tips:

1. Download the app: I downloaded an app called Water Your Body – it makes it easy to track how much fluid & water you drink daily. The app sends annoying notifications to your phone like “you have not drank any water today.” Then you feel guilty and go get a glass of water. It works. Because it annoys you and you want it to go away.

2. Get a Tumbler for your desk at work: I bought a 20oz tumbler and keep it on my desk at work. As soon as I get to work in the morning, I fill it up. When I drink it all, I immediately re-fill it. It’s big and bright pink, I couldn’t ignore it if I wanted to.

3. Hate plain water? I don’t, but some people do. I like Mio and Crystal Light water enhancers. I think most are 0 – 5 cals and come in a ton of flavors.

4. Start a Morning Routine: Drink a big glass of water in the morning when you wake up. It makes you feel more awake, and hey, you just got some water drinking out of the way. I’m usually a little dehydrated when I wake up, so this is a good trick.

5. Other things contain water, not just water: Think coffee, tea, fruit, etc. Many things consist mainly of water. Do a little research and try to work some hydrating drinks and foods into your routine.

6. Get a buddy: My husband also downloaded the Water Your Body app. Having someone remind you to drink water really works, as corny as it sounds. I also have a friend at work who is trying to drink more water. We fill up our tumblers together and hold each other accountable.

Hope this was helpful! I am totally new at this, but will update you guys on how I’m doing! Thanks for reading, as always!
