Permanent Makeup - Would You Ever?

This topic has always fascinated me. Permanent makeup. You will always look fabulous? Is it too good to be true?

I know a few people who have gotten their eyebrows "tattooed," and it looks great. At first it looks a bit harsh, but after it heals it looks like you were blessed with perfectly arched brows. So I wonder - does it work the same for the rest of the face?

Today, there are so many options - permanent eyebrows, lip color, eye liner, lash enhancements, etc. I've done a bit of research, and discovered the following:

-Permanent makeup is more commonly referred to as "cosmetic tattooing"

-Depending on your skin (and the type of procedure and your skin type) you may require a touch-up every one to seven years

-According to the artist, this process causes little to no pain during or after the procedure

-The average price for each tattooing is around $500, not including touch-ups

-Each procedure take about one hour

-Recovery is little to no time - some people can go right back to work afterward

It almost seems to good to be true! Although, the first thing I thought of was - do I want to look the same every day? I enjoy applying my makeup as an art - choosing the colors, textures each day to create a new look. Would I want to have makeup tattooed on my face? Then again, people get regular tattoos as a form of self-expression - so I guess it all depends on the person. Here are some before and after shots:

What do you guys think, would you ever?

  1. Would I ever?
This is an easy question for me...the answer would be no! Never.

I have seen afew people with permanent eyebrows and lined lips and it just looks abit wrong.
I don't know how to put it but...it's just abit too made up. Abit to heavy looking.

I don't think I have ever seen anyone with permanent makeup and thought that they looked fresh!

It is also interesting that in the beauty industry I have never once seen a MUA with tattooed on makeup but I have seen quite afew beauty therapists sporting the tattooed on high arched eyebrows.
I think if you honestly love, love, love makeup and looking different say from day to night or at the weekends then the ideal of permanent makeup should be quite terrifying!

    Really interesting post actually!

  2. I would never!!
"do I want to look the same every day? I enjoy applying my makeup as an art - choosing the colors, textures each day to create a new look."
That's what I thought of as well and I totally agree.
+ I don't wear makeup to the beach so I wouldn't want permanent "lipliner/Eyeliner" on my face.

  3. @Fee - thanks so much for your feedback! I agree - I think I enjoy the art of creating new makeup looks too much to be "locked in" to looking the same every day. it might work for some people, but i don't think it's right for me

@Nora-Schu - agreed! some days I actually prefer the fresh-faced, natural look depending on where I'm going. and yes, no makeup to the beach unless it's tinted moisturizer and lipgloss!

  4. NO!!!! I have quite a few tattoo's but would NEVER have this done. I am now freelancing with Dior and have found alot of my Asian clients are into this, but it looks horrible. Black fades to a horrible grayish green color after time and looks just aweful. Makeup should be FUN, not permanent!

  5. OMG yikes!!! That would be my fear - having it wear off and look like a mess. Agreed, makeup should be fun!

  6. Yeah, i heard that it fades too... It may be great for a while, imagine - you wake up allready in make-up lol. That's cool, but after a while it could fade and you gonna have to hide it somehow... the trends may change radically... imagine if marlene dietrich times comes again lol. all girls wear almost non existing brows and you have full thick line instead of yours.. that's just too... messed up.. no no, not for me....

  7. I personally wouldn't. Partly because I think its often done REALLY badly, and I wouldn't want to take the risk of it looking terrible and being stuck with it. But also because I'm very fickle, and the idea of being locked into one 'look' for a long time is depressing. This is also the reason I haven't ever got a body tattoo, because I just know I would change my mind about it after a little while.

Plus I can't imagine waking up with a full face on every morning. Even though I'm not one for the natural look, I think its a bit sad if you can't bear to be makeup-less for even one minute of the day.

That said, one of my friends has over-plucked her eyebrows to oblivion and even wore eyebrow pencil while scuba diving because she couldn't bear not to draw them on. My brows are thankfully pretty full, but if I got myself in that situation I might consider a more permanent solution!

Sorry for the length of this comment, I find this topic really interesting!

  8. @Vaida - YES, I totally get what you mean. Not only do trends change, but my personal taste tends to change on a weekly basis! I'm too fickle to be locked into looking a certain way each day.

@Ellie - Don't apologize, I love comments!! I agree with what you're saying and am like you - I love being creative with my makeup and seeing what different looks I can come up with. Although I do understand why people would get their eyebrows permanently tattooed (if they didn't have any, like your friend) but they would have to get touch-ups as needed to avoid looking like they have worn off - not attractive!

  9. If I were to ever get any permanent makeup done, it would simply be a light/thin dark brown or light black eyeliner. Eyeliner is the one makeup I ALWAYS wear, and unfortunately all liner smears and smudges on me. I find myself wiping and pulling and tugging on my skin throughout the day, which I know I will kick myself for in the butt later when there are extra wrinkles around my eyes because of this. But... I am too scared of needles to ever do it!

As for everything else, I also love to change it up too often to have it put on permanently, but to each their own!

  10. @Kim - if i were to get anything, it would probably be eyebrows. but my brows are thick enough and i don't pencil them in, so i probably wouldn't. thanks for the love!!

  11. hmmm. i'm not so sure. my eyebrows are already out of control. i would totally do permanent makeup if it came in the form of flawless foundation. but alas, that's impossible. here's to hoping some wily makeup genius comes up with a solution for my problematic skin.

  12. @shawn tina - i agree, i wish there was a perm flawless foundation..now that's an idea! xoxo

  13. Oh NEVER!!! I don't believe in that stuff I like do do make up myself than stick to 1 color for the rest of my life O.O My mom did it with her lips with dark pink and it washed off in 2 years but the woman said it would last forever? Oh well -_-
